Sometimes I realize after the fact that I unintentionally have done it. It scares me into wondering if I do that more often than I think

I'm assuming you're talking about manipulation in a sadistic or parasitic way, so I'm going to go with "yes".
My peers have informed me that I have, what they so lovingly call, a "cult leader" personality. And I've noticed that when I'm around certain kinds of people, my words have a near-mesmerizing effect, and it scares the living shit out of me.

I do in very passive ways. I wish I could make a throwaway for this but oh well (edit thought registration was still closed from weeks back. Since I have been on vacation I must have missed it opening up again. Just tried to make a throwaway and it worked. Leaving this anyway, screw it).
So I do this to my daughter's mother. If I want something to happen I don't just come out and say it, I have to make her think it is her idea. I will drop not-so-subtle hints and lay out my idea over the course of weeks but never put it together. She thinks about it and comes to me with my idea and I just give her tons of praise on how good of an idea that is.
It sucks doing this but I tried just approaching her with good ideas and she disagrees just to be combative. If I want to change anything I have to let her drive the decision and she never even knows it was my idea. It works.

Everyone who has any sort of relationship with anyone else manipulates them. Just sort of the nature of people. It's not necessarily a bad thing unless the intent is bad.

Yep. Every interaction you have with someone else is a form of manipulation.
