Was a bank or financial institution in danger? No. Were the children of anyone important in danger? No. Just the spawn of cattle to be harvested. I would think, in the eyes of those in charge, he did just fine.

His job was NOT to be a bullet magnet in case of invasion of the school. it was a SEMI retired cops job. A public relations (see kids the cops are friendly!) kind of job.

He was an officer friendly, specifically hired so the cop wouldn't be doing his job and arresting weed smokers and pill dealers etc. He would admire their graffiti and talk skateboarding with them instead.
