As soon as i manage to get a couple full weeks work in ill be buying up campung gear again (everything i owned got chucked out a couple years back) get some cargo gear and windshield for the bike and ill be sneaking the fuck out of town and visiting my dad up in the high country. See if i can load up enough to hide for a month. 7 hour ride away 2 of that on medium level 4wd track and a 180 year old rebuilt pioneers cabin i spent half my childhood helping rebuild. Aint been there for 20 years. Sits in the bend of a river that comes down from i think hotham.

In fact i might even do a few days and camp at the base of .. i wont name the place but half way up this dirt road is a full on terrifying 4wd track up to a fire tower, wouldnt take the bike up there and you DO NOT go up there in a small car on your own but i reckon i could walk from the base and back down again in a day...

Its middle of the bush but from the tower you can see well out into the sea to oil rigs.

Time sure does fly right on by...

fire tower

What is a fire tower? Sounds high up, exciting trek, what do you do for water?

So you can climb this tower? You have me all intrigued now... lol

Fire tower is on the top of a place called... something bluff and sits on a second peak you can only get to across a ridge with about a 100ft drop on either side of just enough room for a 4wd. People take trail bikes up it off trailers it takes about 30 minutes to blat up it but its about an hour and a half in a convoy of 4wds and serious roads. My cruiser bike wouldnt get up there at all but i might walk it.

Fire tower is just to watch over... well a hell of a lot of mountainous area not sure if theyre still manned but there used to be someone that lived up there for months at a time just watching for fires.

When i first went up to the hut im going to (the track to the fire tower is maybe a third of the way up the dirt road it was that derelict it wasnt even used as a sheep shed and no shit the grass in the field around it was higher than the roof. most of the other historical shit up there long abandoned aside from the few valleys up there with farms on them, can get there in a sedan (postie up there used to rally drive a datsun 120y down there once a week) much more visited now.... apparently theres a plaque up there with my old mans name on it no one ever told me about and theres a bunch of shit on youtube i keep seeing photos of him on.

The dude that originally lived there waaaaaaaay back in er... late 1800s actually, was part of a club that used to actually walk from melbourne up to this place like.. .every couple of months, insane pioneer shit, plus a murder mystery involving him... fucking awesome place.
