Maybe casual gaming? I think the people who've been bitching at you are the same people who's lives are so uninteresting that gaming is literally all they have because they never sunk the time into other things. Gaming isn't meant to be something that consumes someone's life to the extreme point that it defines them. I'm in the same boat you are. I love games and gaming, but I'm not about to go off on a ridiculous tirade over anyone who games differently than I do.

Yeah just ignore the asses out there. There really is no need to even speak to them I still play many old games all the time. I have consoles and gaming pc's my laptop is not much better than what you have graphics wise mine is the 870 and it's very good for being a gen behind. Just do what you like screw them it sound more like they aren't having as much fun as you are having playing their new modern games than we do playing older ones. Just remember if they say you can't play games at under 60fps or that you can't do this because you don't have that it's already devolved to a epeen contest and its best to just ignore it.

Ignore them, by the way I have a y50 as well, and it's a beast of a laptop, nice choice :)

Oh God are you me? As a female gamer I DONT CARE about gamergate, I DONT CARE which games are so called "degrating" to women (really wtf), I don't fucking care if character has small or big boobz and so on and so in. I just don't fucking care if the game hurts someone's feelings.
If I like it I'll play it. If I don't I won't. What's so fucking hard to understand about this? I don't care if the game is "mainstream" or "indie" and how this label me as "casual" or "HC" player....
Ffs, I just stopped engaging with anyone in gaming comunitie to for reasons. I font want any SJW propaganda or any other agenda forced onto the games I like. Its not a fucking battleground between "real" gamers and who the fucks know who else...
Jesus I usually don't rant, but this... So much this...

You obviously don't want /v/pcmasterrace.
reddit has /r/lowendgaming and /r/patientgamers, in addition to a whole retrogaming network for old-school consoles, including /r/ps2. Something like that would work for you. But their Voat counterparts have not been set up yet.

Is the PCMR subverse run by different people than on Reddit? PCMR on Reddit is pretty laptop/low-spec friendly, in my experience.

All it takes to sour this guy is a little friendly ribbing. He can't take PCMR culture.
It's because video games are no longer the "niche" hobby, since 2007 video games became "cool". "Cool" things tend to attract bandwagoners, paradises who lack onto something not because they like something, but because that something is popular, a way to be "in" with the "in crowd". Since these aren't enthusiasts they cannot think for themselves, so they just parrot whatever opinion is the loudest in order to make themselves sound smart - this is why they attacked you over your laptop (laptops aren't generally recommended for video games for a variety of reasons) even though it had nothing to do with the discussion.
You might like the /v/ board on 8chan - people there hate the average "gamer" (hell, even mentioning this term will inevitably result in someone telling you to kill yourself), the board has it's quirks (for example it's nearly impossible to discuss any moba games), but I would still pick it over any other community for one reason - anonymity. Anonymity erases a lot of cancer that comes with the standard forums and forces other posters to judge you not by who you are, but what you write. The "chan culture" takes a while to get used to (I'd recommend to simply browse the board for a while until you'll be sure how everything works), but once you'll get accustomed you won't ever want to go back.
Also learn to ignore idiots over the internet, they aren't worth your time unless you enjoy trolling them.

Congrats you're not alone there. believe it or not, there is no coincidence that sometimes the most vocal groups are the also smallest of the collective group. and yes they've always been like this, it's just now MP and online communities are far more accessible.
Edit: changed your to you're and "in the majority" to "not alone".

I've been gaming since I was a kid on the NES and there are times when I'm horrified by what gaming has become. There are people who take this shit way too seriously. Sometimes it doesn't seem to be about games anymore. Usually something new comes along and makes me happy, but those moments are getting fewer and fewer. I had my hopes on the indy scene since I've completely lost interest in the current AAA market, but the indy scene is filling with a bunch of hipster wannabe art heroes who hate video games.
From now on, I'm buying nothing but Nintendo. They at least put out games I want to play from time to time. If that makes me filthy casual or not a real gamer anymore, then fuck it, I'm not a gamer anymore.
