I agree that free culture products are just as functional as free software. For instance making a movie on a zero budget still takes a lot of work and it would be nice to know that the final product is legal to distribute. I mean who wants to put all that work into a project they can't show off. So I spend a lot of time finding photos and video that is legal to reuse. And I do my best to do due diligence and make sure my attribution is in place.

I'm going to add some links to your document.

I think one of the main purposes of the /v/freeculture subverse has to be to discuss and explain free culture and free culture licenses. Why are non-commercial licenses and no-derivatives licenses non-free? And what are the advantages of using public domain or CC0 over using free licenses.

I think another purpose needs to be to find and share media that is legally available for reuse under free software licenses.

But in order to be good advocates for free culture I think we also have to be accepting of people who have not yet drank the water. That is, they don't get it. Most people don't really get the distinction between free as in libre or free as in beer. And I myself may occasionally post links to free as in beer media just because it's good and worth the time.

Still links like the Nina Paley above need to remain the center of our focus. I want some stuff I can use!

Thanks,
