Yeah, but their purpose is to mate with wild mosquitoes and pass on their genetically modified DNA. They are claiming that any offspring they create will die with these genes, but who knows? According to this article, it's not really been tested, so it could go either. Beyond that, it's setting precedent to GMO them with inoculations here in the US. Plus, what will it do to the ecosystem in general? I'm no biologist, but don't some fish eat mosquitoes? If so, it could kill off a massive fish population and there goes fishing for free meals... off to the store for you!
Why don’t that do what Thailand did and just genetically modify the mosquitos to only breed males so the blood sucking just ends? Why did they have to do something different when there’s something that already works?

Um... Male mosquitoes are pollinators. They do not bite, they feed on nectar.
