Why are all you white people shaming people of color for their artistic means of self expression?
Don't you know PoC communicate with their bodies differently than white people?
Have you no respect for their historically and regionally accurate portrayal of blackness?
Have you no appreciation for the ceremonial fertility rituals of sub saharan Africa?
Do you not understand how spandex, crop tops, and short shorts are essential in traditional african dance?
/sarcasm
PS it's a French movie.
It shows the adaptation of urban style and social norms by a youth from a "traditional" foreign culture as a means of female, youth empowerment/rebellion.
Adoption of western (im)morality is shown as the path for acceptance and social standing.
This takes the template of Bend It Like Beckham, Stick It, Bring It On -- which were already questionable in intent with 20 year olds playing the teen age roles...but ratchets up the sexuality and applies it to pre-teen girls actresses.
Pretty bad.
Is it worse than Todlers in Tiaras, any pre teen cheer/dance competition, or the way they dress their daughters in the gypsy wedding and birthday shows?
Is it worse than dancing around the maypole or any other traditional spring or coming of age rights of passage?
