Spurred by growing evidence that being overweight increases the risk of serious illness with an infection by the novel coronavirus, a number of Mexican states are moving to ban the sale of junk food to children.

Oh for fucks sake, the Covid shit again? Fatties have been dropping dead rapidfire of absolutely everything for decades, but now it makes the news because of The Novel Coronavirus(TM).

Can’t wait to see how effective this will be. Remember when Mexico banned drug cartels and now there’s no more drug cartels?

They only banned the regular cartels, not the assault ones.

Food bans have been tried in several places and worked in none. This is unsurprising because it doesn't address the problem. Soft drink doesn't make people fat. Stupid fucks and a lack of direct consequences makes them fat. You're not going to solve a problem caused by a lack of personal responsibility by removing yet more personal responsibility in the form of blaming chips for existing. You're going to get government-mandated rations from a bread line before you solve obesity by vilifying and taxing foods.

The fastest I’ve ever seen people rally against the government was when Chicago did the sugar tax. Suddenly people knew how to protest lmfao.

'We’re seeing new lines of junk food introduced, see companies giving out free junk food and calling it disaster relief,” he says. “It’s very stressful, so you go for comfort foods and tasty things. '

'Mexico imposed a tax on sugary drinks and junk food, and Brazil opted for voluntary measures, such as rewriting its dietary guidelines with clear and forceful language about proper diet, that have proved effective. '

'In Chile, the Senate passed strict food labeling laws. '

'Barry Popkin, an obesity researcher at the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, says Colombia and Brazil are pushing to pass laws requiring food warning labeling.“Covid is accelerating it. '

'Tabasco legislator Manuel Gordillo Bonfil said in a statement that the covid-19 pandemic is a historic opportunity to establish public policies that protect the health of children. '
