Fewer blacks were incarcerated pre 1960 and murder rates among blacks were going down pre 1960. Racism isn't the cause of the disparities in numbers it is a characterization.

It's so weird that there's all these disparities when blacks are no more likely to commit crimes.
What's that you say? They are? Huh, how weird that Slate didn't include that as one if their graphs.

No one's forcing you to use drugs. Just saying. I'm not even saying they should stay illegal, I'm just saying that if you do something illegal can you really blame racism when you get arrested for it?
This is due to less ability to pay bail. That sucks for them and is an issue, obviously, but not a result of discrimination by race.
While this may be in part due to actual discrimination mentioned previously in the article, African Americans really do commit crimes at a higher rate than Caucasians. Suffice it to say that this discrepancy would still exist even if there was no discrimination.
Someone read the study and tell me if it's simply because they were caught committing other crimes more often during their probations.
