Exactly, if they eat less food then their metabolism will slow down causing them to gain even more weight. I've actually seen them say this type of shit.

There's some truth to this. The less mass your body has, the fewer calories you need to maintain it. This is true whether you're talking about muscle mass or fat mass, but muscle does require more to maintain than fat. So basically, the more weight you lose, the less you need to eat in order to maintain the same rate of weight loss. In effect, your metabolic rate is lowered as your body mass decreases, since you're burning fewer calories to maintain your body.

This is not an excuse, though. Fatties just need to eat properly for their body. If they're overweight, this still means eating at a deficit until they're a healthy weight again, remembering to adjust for weight loss along the way.
