UHD isn’t a format. It’s still just a blu-ray disc.

VCD is a certain format though.

Website is obsolete (2007) but talks about older codecs that are still around. Stand alone players are very picky with formats and it really has to match limits to whatever the format is.

Isn't UHD where they take a standard definition and then "upsize" it to be high definition on the Blu-ray? It is on a Blu-ray disc but isn't Blu-ray quality.

I didn’t think that “upscaling” had any special acronym. I’ve always just heard it called “upscaling.”

Ironically on a cellphone they are about the same. Also vcds are still big in Asia and the third world as.most people still have small TVs and CDs are.dirt cheap to make. It's about fitting a movie on 700mb vs the much larger space depending on the Blu-ray media. Most movies in the west are seen on streaming services so this video wouldn't even apply. No service is going to use mpeg 1 or 2. Or the full bitrate of a Blu-ray.

Depending on the software used you can still get pretty great quality when you resize the video down to the 700mb size. I was amazed at how well handbrake would do.
