Like I said if youre in a situation where you need body armor and even worse where rounds are flying at you... I'll take that chance.

Good point. Anything is better than a stick in the eye. Especially in that situation. You have a preferred all around rifle round? I went with the 556/223 combo but, I am starting to think I need to beef up to the 308 or some such. Also went for 9mm for side arm. I know there is better stopping power but, I like the additional rounds.

I used to hang around with some prepper guys and that was the eternal question...

For me, I prefer rounds that are super common first so like you said 556/223 is great 7.62 can be good also if you have the rifles for it. 9mm is the most common pistol so same for me... although I kinda want to grab a 1911 too. 40cal is just too much in the middle... the ultimate is .22lr imo. Sure you might get in a few gun fights here and there but you need to be able to kill small game on the run if that situation happens, especially with no fridge around.

They would always throw out random ideas for rounds and it would always come back to the common stuff as best. You don't want to have some weird rifle or pistol caliber that you can't find ammo for in a time of need... It's also a great barter item to have the common stuff too.
