Why would anyone take prisoners to a camp and check them in just to kill them the same day? I mean it is true you wouldn't need a number for that, but why take them to the camp and go through all that trouble just to execute them rather than just shoot them on the side of the road and leave them in a ditch. That is how actual genocide generally works, they just kill the people when it is convenient.

If you consider that there were transfers between camps a longer number would be even more critical so you could have something to effect of an area code from the first camp you were processed through so they could track whatever administrative records they kept on you from your doctor/dentist visits, trips to the brothel, etc.
