The chance in general is essentially zero for most young and relatively healthy people.
The only strategy that might have made sense would have been to isolate the vulnerable portion of the population, while letting the virus cycle its way through the non-vulnerable portion of the population.
Somewhat non-intuitively, the faster the virus can make it's way through that not-at-risk group, the better the odds of the at-risk group being able to stay isolated long enough to avoid catching it.
