Yes this says the same thing I just said. Its not illegal to broadcast false info except for a few very narrow exceptions which arent really relevent here.

Do you have difficulty reading?
"It is, however, illegal for broadcasters to intentionally distort the news, and the FCC may act on complaints if there is documented evidence of such behavior from persons with direct personal knowledge"
Trump could use the FCC to shut down CNN and MSNBC any time he wants.

You need to work on you reading comprehension, you said BROADCAST false information not REPORT AS NEWS.
As I said thats not gonna help anyway.
No he couldn't. As Fox news as argued in court there is a difference between news reporting and commentary.
Likewise the bar for proving a deliberate distortion is incredibly high. If CNN reports that "a new study shows 2 + 2 = 5" they get away with it uf tgere is a study that does say that.
Trump hasnt done it so far because it would be a huge uphill battle legally. The first amendment is taken very seriously by the legal system, so that law is only designed to cover the most egregious things like reporting the wrong location to vote or things that are simple and obvious.
Its not designed ir intended to cover political spin on facts.

The question is why doesn't he want to?
