It's funny how anytime you work for a megacorp or the government, they require you to reject all forms of insurance.

Insurance isn't a scam. People use it wrongly. You need insurance for the situations you cannot afford to cover if they occur.

For instance, on my car, I have a high deductible. I only really need to worry about liability for injury to my passengers or totaling other cars. Or people in other cars. I could buy another car outright if I needed to. When I was younger and poorer, I could not afford $2,000 of damage to my car easily, so I had a lower deductible.

Health Insurance? High deductible HSA. Insurance should not be covering cheap regularly used items such as a yearly health check up. Or out of patent medications. Need regular insulin shots & test strips? Insurance becomes a middleman who undoubtedly makes it all more expensive.

Insurance covers disasters that you cannot afford to cover yourself. It’s a service which shift the burden of responsibility. If you can afford to just buy a new one, you don’t need insurance. However most people would be hard pressed to replace their house or car so they buy insurance. Phone insurance is pretty much a scam because everyone can afford a new cell phone (though there are really poor people out there).

I dunno, my fillings today would've been hella expensive. Glad I have dental insurance!

But really, it's all a scam, no doubt. The stories aboutoriginal life insurance are interesting. But it's essentially gammbing where you should be investing.

I worked at one of the top Buick GMC dealers in the country. If it was a slow service week all of a sudden every car and truck coming in still under warrantee needed new brakes and rotors. I'd see a pile of like new rotors waiting for the recycler to come get them.
