Within some states in USA you are allowed to manufacture your own (for personal use and not sales unless proper license) lower receiver. That is the part the ATF considers the "gun".

Now there are a great many platforms one can choose.

Glock - all gen 3 models and variety

AR15 and AR10

AR9 and it's other offshoots such at AR40 and AR45

AK47 - these require rivets, tack welding and some other high skill set shit that I haven't attempted myself.

1911 frames.

Some sig pistols.

See the ATF allows up to 80% of the lower to be completed before it says it is a useable weapon and requires a serial number. Beauty of making your own is you get confidence, a new appreciation for your time, and fuck me if you don't make a gun. Also you can have all parts shipped directly to your home.

None of this is tracked (as far as normal means but I am sure someone they know)

A perfectly legal hobby. I also suggest learning to do reloads too.

Na...I do calibers of commonality so it's cheaper to buy them as to reloading.

For others it would benefit I say do it.
