As an old woman in Oklahoma, I've never felt the need to have a gun; however, I just sent an email to a friend who is former special forces to see what kind to buy and where to train. If they come for my stuff, they're not gonna take it easily! God bless and protect all Patriots and our men and women in uniform, and of course, all Anons that keep us up to date on crumbs!

Don't get the 357 someone suggested below. Entirely inappropriate for an old woman. I'm sure your friend will give you appropriate advice but you don't want a heavy load like that in a handgun unless you can handle it.

I recommend a revolver and a shotgun for home protection. The revolver (i.e. .38 special or .357) are virtually foolproof and ultra-reliable. If you get a new one, then I recommend taking it to a gunsmith to have the trigger adjusted for your person. That is the downfall of the revolver... it can be a bit hard for petite or older ladies to pull the trigger, but this can be adjusted. (Use hollow point rounds for better stopping power)

Dude, we don't know how "old" this "old woman" is. She's never owned a gun and you start at shotgun and .357? Thankfully she has a former special forces friend to help her, because this is not good advice. Who knows? Maybe she's worked a ranch all her life and could brush off 3" slugs like they aren't shit, but those are your recommendations for an old first-timer? Come on. Revolver isn't a bad recommendation, since loading mags might be difficult for an "old woman's" fingers.

Second that on the .38 special. Got a small wife and she has no problem.

Excellent choice in my opinion...

Agree on both points but fitting a well functioning light and night sights is also critical as likely any home defense scenario will occur at night. A good quality semi auto pistol is easier to fit both.

And practice as soon as possible with a pistol. It’s definitely a muscle memory thing
