They are paid for spots almost always.

They're useful to see what's in the box and how well it is packaged, which is helpful for motherboard purchases and other large buys such as VR kits. But that's all that I want to see, I don't want some mug's face nattering on about random bullshit for five minutes, I just want the unboxing.
If you want to see some good tool reviews though, look up BOLTR (bored of lame tool reviews) on Youtube. They're done by a guy named AvE, and he goes to the extent of dismantling the tool and looking into and talking about the build quality of the tool, including the little things that only an experienced enginerd would pick up on.

That sounds much more useful than showing me the laptop is wrapped in squishy plastic inside the box in the box.

He's pretty entertaining, for a leaf.

I watched one before deciding to order my headset. It was useful to see what's included in the box, and what to expect.

Which peripheral item in the box clinched the decision for you, and why was that more important than the functionality of the damn item you bought?

Had already checked some reviews on the models I was considering. I wasn't specifically looking for an 'unboxing' video, but if you're wondering about the experience you're going to have if you order that product, the unboxing video is the spoiler you're looking for.
You can see a static image of the HyperX Cloud II on their site, but there's far more information in a video showing you exactly what to expect if you order that product. The packaging is not shoddy, and it's all neatly arranged in a solid and attractive box that's protected by a removable outer shell.
The site contains a lot of information about the headset models, but there is no image or information about the packaging itself. Ever bought a product where the packaging made you wonder if you'd made a mistake, and left you questioning whether the company had cheaped out on the product too? That's the only unboxing video I recall watching, but I think it tipped me toward the HyperX line over the other options.
The headset is pretty functional too.

I watched one once when I had a missing part on a product I ordered. Turns out it was just a part of another thingy that I didn't understand. I was a lazy faggot and didn't read the directions. Beyond that... Fake and gay.

I make a lot of big purchases for work. I love these videos. I want to know what to expect with a product I'm about to have to open hundreds of times.

How does a video of packaging save you money?

The people who make reactions to reaction videos are probably more tasty.

What if you make a reaction channel to unboxing videos?
Shit, that might be the most retarded, potential goldmine out there.

Dude, it's going to wrap around itself and become a smash hit of awesomeness.
