Lovren, it seems, is better at winning headers, intercepting balls and clearing danger; a back foot defender who is fine in possession when keeping it simple.

Sakho, meanwhile, uses the ball better. He is more creative in possession and also doesn’t allow the forwards to get past him as regularly; a defender who is more comfortable on the front foot. With just two defensive errors, that is a big advantage over the error-strewn Lovren.

You would think with the way Brendan likes to set up his teams and style of play that Sakho would be first choice but for some reason Lovren seems to be his prefered option.

This is a strange situation. People were not pleased with Lovren's performance last year as well as in the preseason so far. Yet, the boss is likely to pick him over Sakho. Is he just waiting for Lovren to come good after spending so much money on him?
