Set goals. Be happy today. Write down lists of everything.

Everyone says do what you love but the problem with that is most people love things that aren't very profitable. Also if you have to do what you "love" every day you might grow to hate it and you just ruined your hobby. I think it is most important to do something that you feel is meaningful. Even if at times it is boring or difficult, if you at least feel like you are contributing something it then it is easier to get out of bed in the morning.

Take your skill set and financial needs into account also, and try to find where these elements intersect with what you consider meaningful and aim in that direction.

This is true.

I suppose I don't know what I might find meaningful. Knowing the state of the world makes a lot of actions feel pointless. Even if I hope they aren't.

Thank you.

I'd try not to think too hard about the state of the world. If you help a few people, or make a change in your area, that is progress regardless of what is going on in the world at large. Or maybe you go work for a company purely to make money, but then put some of that money into a project that you care about. Big picture thinking can be useful but it can also be paralyzing.

What do you love? What are you good at? Find the place where those two things meet. That may help.

Ask yourself, when you're old, and about to die, what will you be glad to have done? Then try to do that.

First: Do something that will make you money, you don't have to enjoy it at all what so ever.

Second: Use said vocation to pay for what you like or to find out what you like doing. Fund yourself.

Don't be afraid to fail. Try new things, and remember that a jobs a job, not who you are. If you need to do a job you hate to facilitate doing what you love then go for it. Maybe you'll find a job you like down the line. Balance is key.
