I assume by "team red" you mean AMD GPUs.

It isn't just "team red guys," it is "anyone with a functional OpenCL implementation."

AMD sped the spreadsheets up using OpenCL, so that it isn't limited to AMD hardware.

I don't actually know any writers by that name.

so how do I get this on Mint? Will the packages in the repo push out libre5, or do I have to install it separate from 4.x?

You can install it via their PPA. This is the "Fresh" PPA, which is always the latest stable version.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice

Edit: fixed typo

Still has a bug (at least for me) in Writer where if you put more than five linked images on a page, where they're all the same image, it locks up.

Still, that's better than 4.4 - it locked up above two images...

That's an odd bug and sounds easily reproducible. Have you reported it? BTW, I just tried doing that and it worked fine... I added 7 linked, identical images before I got bored.

Yep. It seems to happen on all the computers I try it on (all Windows machines). Maybe it relates to the size of the image?

It seems to have a nice inertia going. The more it is adopted the better for all.

I am hoping for more polish on the spreadsheet. I am using it for personal spreadsheets and although not perfect it's very useable.

I'm finding that for Office users who don't care, it's a better alternative. Writer in particular. It's simpler and gets out of your face.

There's always people who say 'oh but I need feature X from Word' - use Word then!

When will it come to the Ubuntu repositories?

Most likely a long time. It wouldn't be added to any of the current version's repos. Ubuntu keeps software packages at the same major version through an Ubuntu release. However, you can just install it from their PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice

Edit: typo

Okay, thanks for explaining. I never knew that they stick to the same major version for a whole release.
