And this is...surprising? The Latino population in the US tends to swing conservative/moderate.

Legal immigrants and American latinos are sick of being associated with illegal immigrants, sick of everyone who speaks spanish being assumed to be an illegal, etc. I know lots of latinos, most legal and some illegal and even the illegal ones are saying something needs to be done to prevent immigration. Many think there are just to many people coming at once and they are all competing for the same jobs, benefits, etc.

Yeah, but remember when we say "Latino Republicans" we're actually talking about Cuban expats (in the majority) who really don't share the same concerns (or lifestyles/socioeconomic conditions, that is) with "liberal" latino peoples.

Why is it that they don't share the sane socioeconomical conditions, I wonder?
Could it be that Republican values make you wealthy?

Some of the top earners in Cuba work for tips in the tourism sector. It's really a land of zero opportunity, so it's unsurprising refugees are extra willing to work hard - as much as people complain, you still can get ahead, even if it's getting more and more difficult.

Your implicit assumption of wealth being virtuous is interesting.
But remember the Bible (because Republican values tend also to be Christian values):
(Matthew 19:24)
and
(1 Timothy 6:10)

Latinos aren't liberal in the first place.
Most are Christian, hard working, pro-gun, anti-abortion, traditional gender role, paternalistic, macho people. You can only bribe them to vote democrat for so long. They'll return to their conservative roots in time, just wait and see.

I don't quite agree with you, but maybe you saw some study or read some poll that I didn't.
