Haven't they done this to small farmers for decades... in Iowa in the 90s small corn and soy farmers got pushed out of business by big conglomerates that could harvest thousands of acres with combines.... combines being over $100,000 at the time, farmers couldn't compete and sold off their land. Montsanto was behind it.
I'm not a religious person but I can't help thinking of the part in Matthew: And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
I believe these "days" will be shortened by Q/Q+ or you are right, all small farms and small businesses will go under. And I do believe Trump when he says things will be better than ever.

Some GMO farms SHOULD be shut down
Dangerous crops
POISONED soil.
Quite sure REAL Farmers are protected and in some ways WORSHIPPED by the White Hats. Farmers deserve worship, not entertainers and sports clowns. GOOD teachers deserve a special place in our hearts as well.. First responders; GOOD men in Blue TOO

Plus it's not like you can replace the crops next week IF demand improves, once gone, they're gone until NEXT harvest (after tilling, planting, fertilizing, watering, growing, weeding, harvesting). That MUST mean a GAP somewhere in the chain.

exactly, i have a consumer goods manufacturing company and laid off 120 people. People say. gee it'll bounce back. NOOOOOTTTTTTTT my sales cycle is up to 1 year for product. Massive orders have been cancelled for the rest of the year that CANNOT be made up. and future shutdowns are looming. This isn't a once and done virus.

EXACTLY. SO many other considerations that simply "supply" and "demand". Yet our leaders, I guess, though aware, think we (public) can't handle the truth? SO MANY things that are not considered? It's why I PREPARE for life WITHOUT government leadership. I hope you have too.

agree mostly. however extended shutdowns is going to ruin many producers as demand is down. people eat less when limited to grocery, and also economic damage people will be spending less. I think there will be lots of supply destroyed, namely smaller farmers. There is an opportunity for them to sell direct if they get some marketing going. But how they get around regulation for dairy, meat etc...is another subject. It's time to open up some more local meat markets and processors!
the foodservice distributors have to be getting killed, Sysco, US foods etc... that biz has been decimated.
we'll be the last country to ever starve but things will be severely impacted from what they were.
I wish local independent butchers would come back. It's been harder and harder to find a local butcher that is an independent (I don't know of any near where I live now). I preferred going to them, the meat was much better because they were usually selling their own animals that they raised. Now, it's all grocery store chains or big box stores.

I buy meat from a small local farm. I no longer trust mass market meat. I get produce from same farm in summer and a health food market near me. You would think prices sky high, they are not. And fantastic quality. If you can do it, find a farm and buy local. Get a freezer and stock up.

yep, some have websites, but most are on craigslist, bookface marketplace etc.... I think we are heading back to decentralized local food production and sales, which will be a good thing that comes out of this.
