Plus it's not like you can replace the crops next week IF demand improves, once gone, they're gone until NEXT harvest (after tilling, planting, fertilizing, watering, growing, weeding, harvesting). That MUST mean a GAP somewhere in the chain.

exactly, i have a consumer goods manufacturing company and laid off 120 people. People say. gee it'll bounce back. NOOOOOTTTTTTTT my sales cycle is up to 1 year for product. Massive orders have been cancelled for the rest of the year that CANNOT be made up. and future shutdowns are looming. This isn't a once and done virus.

EXACTLY. SO many other considerations that simply "supply" and "demand". Yet our leaders, I guess, though aware, think we (public) can't handle the truth? SO MANY things that are not considered? It's why I PREPARE for life WITHOUT government leadership. I hope you have too.

Here is their plan: Check out Food Chain Reaction a DS org. A Global Food Security Game is a simulation and role-playing exercise intended to improve understanding of how governments, institutions, and private sector interests might interact to address a crisis in the global food system. The scenario is set five years from today in a world where population growth, rapid urbanization, extreme weather, and political crises combine to threaten global food security.

The game’s players—high-level decision makers representing nations, international institutions, and the private sector—will collaborate, negotiate, make decisions, and confront tradeoffs while dealing with a chain reaction of consequences resulting from their actions.

How can new preppers get ready? I heard meat will be shortages to stock up and buy extra freezer. now land for garden i have a deck. any ideas welcome. Rice is going up and easy to store long term.

they can disrupt supply chain short term, but that will decentralize. not sure how they'll limit producers unless this is going to run small producers out of business for good. unless they are going to hammer them with severe law enforcement

Have a grocery store that buys directly from the local farms here. Eggs, meat, veggies have no limits. Paper products do, tho. If you are in an urban area, you are at the mercy of huge distributors that can act as gatekeepers of your foods.

I work in the produce industry in California.

In our local county we supply a large amount of lettuce, romaine, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, salad mixes ECT.

I'm not seeing any of the things mentioned above at all.

The food service customers have dropped their sales by 70% 3 weeks ago, but this week they were down 40%

Significantly off, but the sales are improving steadily in these sector of our business. Food service = schools, restaurants, hospitals, prisons, sporting events ECT.

The retail side of our business has made up for the losses we have seen in food service. Costco, Publix, Target, Kroger ECT.

We are a large grower here, and there are 6 to 7 others like us here.

Right from the mouth of my Amish neighbor today. Chicken farmers are gassing their flocks because there is no place to process them. Dairy farmers are dumping half of their milk down drains. Dairy farmers already have a narrow margin so this will put many out of business.

yes, my buddy that has a sizable dairy said prices crashed and they are waiting for the call from their co-op/ processor that their milk wont be needed, like many others have already been notified.
