One way to solve this is to remove the main subverses from your subscriptions and browse them through the links on top of the page.

Or you could try to subscribe to more subverses to balance things out.

I had a solution for this 'conditionally mute'

Basically set a 'score' or other parameter for your 'hot' stream and only see say things from 'funny' if they have X up votes

X being what you set I.e 30 50, 60, 100 etc.

You would ve able to change it etc, also apply or un apply it to your new or top stream.

In the settings section you can manage account features. There is a box to check if you wish to replace the default menu bar at the top of your page with a menu bar listing your subscribed subs. Perhaps this would help you.

Tested the setting and it appears fully functional for me.

I had a long list of subs so its nice and diverse, but I just go to all when I want more selection.
