I know people that have hired life guards for their pool parties before. Doesn't happen often, but I'm sure there's money to be made there

Yes, Definitely!! If your talking about the pool lifeguard... We used to have a lifeguard on duty for every occasion. Especially for my son's birthdays, you can never be too safe. Make sure you are properly licensed though. Also be sure to look up the laws and insurance liabilities, because they may get to be very costly. You will most likely be catering to people who are more prominent and wealthy. Make sure its professional and legitimate 100%. Consult a lawyer.
I think you'd have to have a lot of credentials and relevant qualifications to show that you are ready for the job if this isn't just a swimming lifeguard. If swimming lifeguard then totally! But otherwise you have to be a steely stoic killing machine that could totally ice their kids with just your thumbs but you don't cos they pay you not to.

I think if I needed a personal lifeguard I'd just spend the money on swimming lessons instead.

If I had a pool and was having a kids party, yeah. But I don't have a pool or kids.
Depends on where you live. I'm from Toronto and that just wouldn't work because outdoor pools are generally only popular 2 months a year and there's only a couple of wealthy areas where I would expect a lot of people can afford a private pool and lifeguard. If you live in a much warmer place that also has a lot of rich people I bet you could do just fine as a personal lifeguard.
