I have never used seafoam before, but people swear by it. My understanding is it's kind of a last resort for an old failing engine, my baby is new.

I had a problem with a small engine that wouldn't stay running, and believe it or not it was just a dirty air filter.

Seems like an ignition or throttle issue. If it's carborated you may need to adjust the idle jet so you can fuel starve it to shut it off.

Yes sir. Transported and reassembling a 25 year old sewage tank for a trailer park. Lots of refab work, you can imagine what 25 years of sewage and chlorine will do.
I have about 3 weeks left till I'm done. This was kind of my break out job, working for myself. But, with this corona bull shit, I have nothing lined up after.
If you have a decent toolbox & watch enough YouTube videos, you could do mill right work pretty easily :)
Knowing how different types of conveyors function, drive belt & chain replacements, aligning motor shafts, hydraulic maintenance & cylinder changes (I don't know how many bushings I've rebuilt or replaced in my career).
Beam clamps, chain blocks, come alongs, sling, shackles, ratchets & wrenches, a good impact & a basic toolbox will get you going.
Keep on the lookout for a used line boring setup, there's good money in mobile heavy equipment maintenance if you get familiar with it.

Well when an engine runs on its called dieseling. An engine will diesel because combustion is occurring without spark, this happen when the head is so hot it ignites the mixture. Try applying the choke for 10 seconds then shutting it off, a lot of the newer engines are really lean for government emissions.

That's diesel and he said gas. Small engines usually use a magneto. Shutoff is to ground it so it doesn't continue to the spark plug.
Someone above provided the correct answer.

I would think he would check that it was grounding before posting,

Clean the carb, intake, and throttle body and valve.
Report back.

To shut the engine off the "ground" the coil wires to divert the spark to ground. It seems to me that you have a loose ground wire where it partially grounds and the coils are still running at 30% until it chokes out like a corona patient without a respirator.
Check for a black wire on the block and wiggle it. In fact you should wiggle all the wires while it is in the low idle condition. If you make it better it will stall, if you make it worse it will speed up. (remember you are actually shorting out the coils to end their ability to make a spark.)

I will check the wires off the block. Thanks.
Probably not a bad magneto? Could the amount of heat be a part of it? She got hot, little small for what I'm doing but like I said, never had a problem before. I'm wondering if I should be waiting longer after doing heavier work before turning it off. I gave it 5 minutes or so.
Thanks again. Will look at wires and report back
