Easier to feed and keep in the house. Imagine trying to keep grazers fed in new york city.

Dogs and cats can't survive on small amounts of "grazing" and scraps from humans. Most animals we have kept around eat things we won't/can't/shouldn't.

I don't know about cats, and I'm probably wrong about this, but my understanding is dog were domesticated not because of their predatory, but their instinct to scavenge. I don't know why they are the favorites, maybe it is because how they seem to "love" us back?

Wolves are not especially friendly towards humans. The demeanor dogs have today are through thousands of years of selective breeding. Also an interesting fact is that wolves don't bark, another feature humans have produced through artificial selection.
