I am a nurse and I have known about and avoided this for years. In the grocery store checkout-- touch screens and buttons, airport touch screens, elevator buttons, door handles, anywhere John Q Public has touched is a petri dish of disease-- Gross!

In the hospital where we used to live there was a staph outbreak... and guess where it came from? Medical personnel using a shared key board in patients rooms without hand washing. CDC did a bunch of tests... and it was all over their cell phones too. So believe me, it ain't just John Q Public.

As much as I hate McDonalds, that's a real shitty article.

Senior lecturer in microbiology at London Metropolitan University Dr Paul Matewele said: ‘We were all surprised how much gut and faecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines.

Faecal bacteria are everywhere there's humans. There's some on your phone/keyboard right now, washing doesn't get it all off. I doubt there's any public venue you wouldn't find it if you swabbed the menus.

These cause the kind of infections that people pick up in hospitals.

That's such a broad statement it's ridiculous.

A screen at one branch was found to have staphylococcus, a bacteria that can cause blood poisoning and toxic shock syndrome. Dr Matewele said: ‘Seeing Staphylococcus on these machines is worrying because it is so contagious.

"Staphylococcus includes at least 40 species. Of these, nine have two subspecies, one has three subspecies, and one has four subspecies.[4] Most are harmless and reside normally on the skin and mucous membranes of humans and other organisms."

So another scare-quote from a dindu who either doesn't know what he's talking about, or is only interested in what he's getting paid.

"‘There is a lot of worries at the moment that staphylococcus is becoming resistant to antibiotics. However, it is still really dangerous in places like Africa where it can cause toxic shock.’"

Yes, some staphylococci can become resistant to anti-biotics... in places with large amounts of antibiotics like hospitals. I don't think this is likely to happen in mickey ds.

Bottom line, all of the names he's listing are broad categories of bacteria, not specific species. And while some of the members of those categories can cause illnesses, they have to get to the right place to do it. If our immune systems were so weak that this was a threat we'd have much bigger things to worry about than fast food touchscreens. We'd be in mortal danger just from taking a walk in a park.

You're spot on. I think this article is to induce panic and fear about these touch screen machines that are replacing people who fuck up simple orders and demand $15 minimum wage.

That's an interesting perspective, hadn't thought of that. I assumed it was just clickbait and McDonalds was an easy target.

Yeah this is a crap article. Lol see what I did there? But really, humans and all the things we're around are coated in this stuff. Unless it's sterilized and kept sealed, if we're around it, it has fairly harmless baseline levels of this gunk. And they're blowing it way out of proportion. Yeah I'm sure those screens have gross stuff on them, but this is not particular evidence of it.

I bet the touchscreens are cleaned more often than traditional menus at other restaurants.

Yeah actually... I've worked in a couple and I don't remember ever cleaning a menu.

Faecal bacteria are everywhere there's humans

Your entire premise is fake and gay.

All the strains of niggers - pooniggers, sandniggers, taconiggers, jewniggers, etc - are not human. When subhumans are imported into human civilization, you get subhuman results. Subhumans do not clean themselves, care for others, or the environment, as humans do. This is the source of shit on touchscreens, not humans. Subhumans do not belong in civilization.

Ok, fine, fecal bacteria are everywhere there's animals too. You're never more than 6ft away from a rat in a city.

Yeah but I can wear gloves or wash my hands. Touching microscopic grains of shit is better than dealing with niggers any day.

The only thing that is surprising is that this is surprising. People are fucking animals.

What kind of moron pays on a touch screen? Automation is the death of humanity. Never support it.

You can get a bulk pack of 24 touch screen styluses for ~$5. I think I might immerse a bunch in a snapple bottle of alcohol and keep the bottle in my trunk. Fish out a stylus, order or use the ATM, put stylus back in its virus and bacteria murdering snapple bottle.

Don't eat much fast food these days, though. When I do it's mostly a Five Guys burger.

You might be okay. I think they pay their employees better.

Good idea about the bulk pack of styluses.
