Can police force entry based on a phone call alone? Seems odd to me that the video begins after the door was already opened. The shooting itself will be legally justified as she pointed a gun at them, but if they broke in the family may have a case.

If you are concerned for someone's well-being, go check on them or call a friend to go check. Don't call the government.

Yep. They say it gives them probable cause and I'm sure most courts would back them up unfortunately.

Probable cause requires clear, articulable evidence observed directly by the officer. I'm not disagreeing with you that government courts will protect their government employees. But the 4th amendment and privacy rights should never be denied for hearsay.

Actress who? Either way that last little bit is critical. She had the "gun" (replica) raised up and she told the officers before that to kill her. They might have been a little trigger happy but when an obviously mentally disturbed person is waving a gun around I don't think there was going to be a happy ending.

Good way to kill a friend: ask the police to go check up on her because you're too lazy.

It's a good warning to everybody. Never call the police on a family member who is acting crazy. Deal with it yourself. The exception, of course, is when the family member is aggressively violent and trying to hurt or kill somebody.

More people are killed during "welfare checks" than any other type of police contact. The welfare check is the most dangerous police activity. Let that sink in.

Government is so incompetent they literally kill you while checking up on your welfare. Don't worry, citizen, we're from the government. We're here to help.

Well, that's too bad. Woman was obviously certifiable, in the literal sense -- she needed to be institutionalized. She decided to commit suicide by cop. She succeeded in committing suicide by cop. In hindsight, the officers could have been more aggressive in getting close to her and controlling her as they were telling her what was going to happen. They are programmed to react in a very specific way when they see a gun, and that's the way they reacted.

I'd like to see the bodycam of that guy on the right with the rifle, but it might have been obscured by how he was holding it.

Overall that looks like a pretty crazy situation. Not sure what I would have done.
