When you grow up in germany you are constantly reminded of the nazi crimes and what lead hitler to gain power. A huge chunk of the history lessons in school are about WW2. We also have many memorial sites about this time. Usually multiple in every bigger city, and some even in small villages all around germany. Regular articles in newspapers remind you about it even today. I would say we are very sensitive to power imbalances and were raised to never let this happen again. This is also the reason why we are very angry about the espionage by the NSA of the german politicians, corporations and common population. It is very sad to see that one of our best allies, who greatly helped germany to raise from the ashes is now taking such a dark path.

Germany is a great country of people. A country that really shows it can learn from and grow from it's past--no matter how unsettling and painful it is to accept the past.

Japan, on the other hand, I have no idea why people give them so much credit. They have large groups of fascists/nationalists who demand removal of Japan's dark history. They deny the Rape Of Nanking ever happened. ... And now they're starting to build a military.

Any country that refuses to accept the wrongs of the past is going to commit them again.

I would not be surprised to see the next "Big War" in the world started between China and Japan, with Russia and the USA fighting large proxy wars.

Hasn't the world changed when we look to Germany for examples of a moral center?

Personally, I think that's one of the greatest examples of the good of humanity... that even a country like Germany can grow into a place of peace and goodwill.

I could easily look into becoming a dual citizen there. Great country, great people, best beer in the world. Horny, yet respectable people. What's not to like?

Censorship in video games for one.

If you don't mean the Nazi censorship, but the "realistic" violence one then please remember that it just that some games can't be sold to minors or advertised to them. The German 18+ rating is just a little more strict then the 17+ rating that you got in the USA. In the USA it is just that retailers censoring themselves by not selling those games and in Germany it is developers censoring themselves to get the 16+ rating instead of the 18+ rating. You could compare it to developers in the USA avoiding the AO rating since that makes it harder to sell the games.

The impending doom of the European economies?

The massive empty towns and villages due to failing birthrate, the massive taxes for their social programs.

It's OK but its not a wunderland.

Upvoted for facts. Though, I think more people will upvote you if you throw some sources in.

It's not actually stopped. they only said, that there will be no investigations until the report which classifies if it was treason is finished.
