2020-01-08 | Gay rights: Switzerland to decide whether homophobia should be a crime
'In a study conducted recently by a gay rights organization ILGA on Europe’s LGBTIQ equality laws and policies, Switzerland placed 28th out of 49 countries. '
'If passed, Switzerland would join a handful of other European nations like Denmark and the Netherlands where homophobia is a criminal offense. '
'Roman Heggli, secretary-general of Swiss gay advocacy group Pink Cross, said the organization’s hotline receives dozens of reports of insults, threats, and physical violence against members of the LGBTIQ community each month. '
'While the country recognizes civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, entitling them to pension and inheritance rights, adoption of children is still not legal. '
'But that may change on Feb. 9, when Swiss voters will head to the polls to decide whether homophobia – hate crimes or discrimination based on sexual orientation –should be criminalized. '

But what if it’s not a phobia and just a general dislike? The over use of phobia is destructive to language and gives idiots more power.

Newspeak. Homophobia means anything between "killing a homo because he's a homo" and "something a homo doesn't want to hear". It's intentionally as undefined and bubblegum-like as possible.

There's an old joke about anti-semtiism that seems apropos for people to understand what actually has happened and explain what will happen.
"Anti-semitism used to mean someone who didn't like Jews, now it's someone Jews don't like."
It's a far more accurate description of reality than most would like to admit.

Phobia means a fear of, and uh, I'm not scared of em

Phobia isn’t just a fear, it’s like having a full blown panic attack when exposed to their trigger. That’s how I found out that a friend was afraid of spiders. I was watching the Hobbit movie and a scene with spiders came up. Turns out she has a phobia, she ran screaming from the room. From a picture of CGI spiders on the television.
