We talked about this in my audit class, apparently it's a pretty common thing to do.
Also sending companies stuff that they didn't order, but will pay for anyway.

Isn't this what a "purchase order" is for?

How often does it get caught vs. just paid and no one notices?

Depends on how many "diversity hires" a company has. As has been already shown, Google must have achieved 100% diversity in their accounting department.

If a company doesn't have controls to match invoices with orders, it will be paid pretty much 100% of the time. Any serious company will have such controls by now, I imagine.

Not quite that simple.., even if they make a mistake it can can back to haunt you.....
Anecdotal: I was flat broke, wife and kids, I’m using the credit card for groceries waiting everyday for a cheque to arrive. It’s only $1300 but it is due and I need it fucking bad! Day after day hoping and waiting, mr postman, please..please, my credit card is almost dead......
Then mr postman showed up with some bills...., and a cheque.! Ya fuck ya! Back in business! Open the envelope, look at cheque made out to my name in the amount of $135,000.00.
Fuck. Do I cash it? No. Can not cash huge cheque because company that made mistake would never do business with me again.., besides the fact I would have to pat it all back...,
Holding a fortune, thinking, maybe just cash it and run to Mexico.., fuck the family, fuck everyone......,
Decided better, sent it back, waited another week for $1300 bucks....

I would have deposited it. Then acted like I didn't even notice.

Definitely. Maybe plus a little Mercantile. Either way, though, the relation they present is horribly contradictory. Showing a picture of him getting caught and then saying his Sneak is maxed out is like showing him shooting arrows that keep missing and saying his Marksman is maxed out. That's...that's just not how it works.
