Bats and bees? No, it was rats and fleas. The rats carried the fleas and the fleas carried the plague. When they latched for a blood meal the plague bacteria was transferred into the next victim. They would get a "ring around the rosey" where the bite happened. Similar to the bullseye from a tick bite.

Fleas on the rats.
Witch burners were killing all the cats.
Hence the development of the Terrier.
Best rat hunter money can buy.
Terriers saved human civilization.

The black plague had always been around in central asia, but the first time europeans were introduced to it was when Genoans in the Crimea came under attack in 1347 by a tribe of nomadic Asiatics known as the Kipchaks (semitic turks). While besieging the white outpost, the Kipchaks deliberately lobbed plague-infected human corpses into the town by catapult.
Some of the survivors who were infected retreated into Europe, spreading the disease.
They say it was rats and fleas, but the reality is that rats do not migrate thousands of miles. Humans spread it. Maybe it was fleas on humans, who then spread to the rats, but in either case, patient-zero was a human who didn't wash.

Dark was the age of no light, terrified citizens, decaying corpses, end of humanity in site
Delight to rat vermin who feed off the dead, defecate in the kitchen, sleep under bed
Yet it’s not the rat that caused the death known as black, it was a tiny parasitic flee that clung to its back
