Although he was never found his wife was convinced he had committed suicide by jumping from a ferry in the English Channel. And whether or not he had hired a hit man, his wife who survived the attack on her and the Nanny in her home said it was Lucan himself who killed the Nanny and attacked her. Here is a link to an interview with her done around 2018. She died a few months after this documentary was filmed. It’s about 45 minutes long but it’s a compelling first hand account.

I watched this when it came out and I agree that it is a compelling first hand account. But, if it was he who attacked the Nanny, why kill her instead of his wife? Maxwell died somewhat mysteriously in circumstances involving his yacht and water, which is similar to a ferry and the English Channel. It is hard to see Lucan as a suicidal type and harder still to understand why his wife would feel this was true.

I agree his character didn’t fit the suicide explanation-too narcissistic.

In the documentary the wife relates that she, her daughter and the Nanny were upstairs watching TV when the Nanny offered to go downstairs to make tea for all. When the Nanny didn’t return the wife went downstairs to see what was taking so long and found all the lights out and no response when she called to the Nanny. She was then attacked by her husband. She manages to survive the initial attack and the husband tells her he killed the Nanny presumably because the Nanny discovered him in the house and to prevent her from warning the wife.
