If you want to penetrate armor or vehicles, obviously .50. .338 can still be used for anti-material and defeat about 5 layers of body armor at 1,000yds. .338 stays supersonic out to 1,600yds as well. The military has also been looking into replacing the .300 win mag and .50 bmg with .338 Lapua.

I'm trying to balance out my boog toys more, especially in the long-range precision department. I've heard some good things about 300 Win Mag too, but still not entirely sure. Any commentary appreciated.

Just get a 6.5 cm, way less recoil, far cheaper, and stays supersonic to 1300 yards with store bought ammo that costs a bit less than 1$ per round. Reloading will get you even further. The only real use for magnum rounds is against tougher targets or ranges out past 1500 yards.

300 win mag ftw. It is proven distance large game round and readily available.

I would also go 300win just for the ease and availability of ammo. However who doesn't want something that will stop a vehicle.

That one closest to the thumb will probably go through about 3 ft of meat before it even thinks about turning a corner.

The .338 is fine for small game, but for whitetails and larger, the .50 is a more responsible choice.

The long range matches these days are often won by .375 or .408 Cheytac.

Ammo is less available than for the two you asked about.
