Well that isn't what happened at all, developer made a ridiculously long story about Zoe Quinn on a penny arcade forum after asking permission and it found its way to reddit. The story entailed that she banged 5 different dudes who were affiliated with the indie scene, some journalists and some developers. It really read as a sad stir of a pathetic door mat venting his frustration to fellow nerds on a forum. It exploded and suddenly everyone knew who she was. Several of the initial critics used this story to expound on something that was already being discussed : The indie scene is a fucking club, if you don't fall in line you aren't welcome and that gaming "journalism" is a fucking joke with no accountability.

So it is shitty that it was a girls dirty laundry that brought it to light but they were legitimate gripes many already had. Quickly two exteme camps were formed despite most people falling close to the middle. As the other dude said, if you defended the her you were labeled an sjw..... By a fringe minority. And if you thought hey the gaming media does blow , you were labeled as a doxxibg hate monger, also by a minority. The only difference is that one of these groups actually controls gaming journalism and didn't take kindly to be criticized. As a result you have people who legitimately believe that anyone opposed to the current state of gaming journalism etc. Is in full support of doxxing and death threats.

That's pretty much all I've read about it that actually makes any sense. The rest of the commentary seems to be a lot of rabid indignance that games that are designed for anyone other than boys or young men can possibly get good reviews.

It's a storm in a teacup, really.
