This happened a while back, early 2000s.. Like, early GWB timeframe.
Minimum wage was $5.25, I believe. Every fast food joint, etc. was advertising, "Starting wages $9!/hr!" "Starting wages $11/hr!" "Benefits included!" "We pay for school!"

The economy as organized seems to promote multiple part time jobs vs one full time job. My suspicion is that wide spread inconsistent working arrangements and the endless supply of immigrants/workers are two of the three main factors causing wage stagnation since the 70s. The third being globalization that moves manufacturing out of the country.
