I find this very pretentious, and I really hope most people on Voat don't feel the same way. I understand why registering is restricted for now, but I look forward to the day when Voat is open to more people. What I don't look forward to is older members acting holier than thou because they were here first.

May I ask why you find it pretentious? I didn't mean to make it sound like that. I meant it in the sense the smarter users got out of Reddit befor it went crazy and came here. Anybody else(I.E. the crazies we don't want here) came a bit too late and can't register. I just think that if Voat can have smart conversation instead of pandering and karmawhoring, it will be a much better place. And personally I feel like making registration invite only will only help with making quality posts here.

I don't think the average person on Voat is smarter than the average person on Reddit, nor do I think people here don't pander or karmawhore. I'm getting sick of Voaters circle-jerking about how smart they were to come to this really cool new club before the doors were closed, and how much better it is than that other club where the losers are. What if they closed the day before you joined? Would Voat be better off? I wouldn't know, but probably not.

Ironically now I feel like the preachy/pretentious one. I'm out of my element.

Jumping community isn't about intelligence, it's about how much shit you can take before you get out. Changing communities is hard, and I got literally in the door when sign ups stopped. If anything, the crazies were first to jump ship here, we have all the "Hate" communities that were kicked off Reddit.

It's isn't about intelligence. It's numbers. Crowds are dumb. People are smart. And because Voat is so small, every comment, upvote and downvote has importance and impact because it isn't washed away, so people comment smarter.

Hey, I'm a mod over at /v/fallout. We are having a massive game release with FO4 in 15 weeks, and daily there are hundreds of threads with new information, excitement and speculation... on /r/fallout. /v/fallout is a ghost town now. We were getting about 100 new people per day and consistent interesting posts and discussion... till account sign ups closed. We now get about 3. We have frozen around 3000 subs for the last week and things are moving very slowly. Subs grow with momentum. The more subs and posts you have, the more subs and posts you get in future. But it works in reverse too. We just started growing, but when Voat went private, we lost all momentum and the community crashed. We can't do anything but keep the place operational, improve functions and wait till we open again... We need new blood because currently we just don't have the numbers to keep niche sub-reddits active, and the only reason I haven't change to Voat completely is because my favorite niche sub-reddits are dead here.
