Relax, it is nothing new. The Russians have been doing this since the Soviet era. Their strategy is a test of American resolve and alertness. The commanders of these ships are well aware of these tactics and "incidences". The Russians look for weakness, identifying reactions that could be interpreted as over-reaction or under-reaction. They hope for a "slip" of secrets, signals, communication, or anything that may be identified in a real-life live situation giving the Russians an advantage. Again, it is nothing new.

We know exactly what they are playing at, as we have seen this happen thousands upon thousands of times, in the air and on land.

Most likely the Russians wanted to see how we would react in order to determine if they should update their own tactics. Submarines play the same games with each other underwater.
