No matter who shipped the slaves, White Anglo-English aristocrats still bought and used the slaves to man their plantations, and white Anglo-Americans still went to war against the USA to preserve the institution of slavery and the ill-gotten mega-wealth it afforded a select few.
Its also true that something like 95 or even 99% of white families in the 19th century USA did not own slaves. The extreme majority of white Americans did not participate. The reason was the keeping and handling of slaves was not something that could be done without hired help to patrol them. I mean try to imagine the absurdity that Liberal media likes to paint of common families owning slaves: that somehow 1 white man, 1 white women, and their 5 children would somehow successfully control multiple strapping blacks selected for their physical power when said slaves knew where the master and his wife slept, all while out on farms that were sometimes days of walking from the nearest sheriff or cop. Its just possible. The only place slavery was remotely feasible was in the enormous plantations that would have otherwise hired farmhands by the dozens. And those were owned by the 0.01% of the South, most of them with bloodlines back to European nobility. The irony being the institution of slavery harmed nearly all white families in the South by denying them opportunities for employment, and by selling their crops at far lower prices than non-slaving farmers could afford, pushing most rural southerners into poverty and subsistence farming.

White Anglo-Americans went to war in large part to protect their homes and families. Grant marched south and burned much of what stood in his way. Women, Children, Sympathizers, Blacks, Whites, Homes, Businesses; it did not matter.
War is hell. No matter what the reason, if someone brings war to your doorstep you have typically have two choices fight or die.
If the only goal of the war was to end slavery (and not the power of the 10th amendment) the Government could have offered to purchase ever slave in the country for less than the cost of war. Hell for less than the cost of the damage done to the south as a result of the war.

I'll give you that its hard to believe that Tecumseh Sherman is a venerated General in this Woe day and age. By all accounts the man is a heinous War Criminal with a long spat of atrocities to his name. After all he was the one that waged the campaign that directly targeted civilians and civilian property, and given "the Union" writes the history books its hard to know the full extend of the innocent lives he ended.
However he didn't commit his reign of terror until well into the war.
The problem with all of this. The USA's version of Civil War history is steeped in propaganda, fully demonizing and dehumanizing the Confederates. But the whole "War of Northern Aggression" is trying to paint that the Confederates where gentile, innocent nice folks who just wanted to mind their own business. Which I don't believe for a second either. LIke any and all wars every fought, the Civil War was about money and power. And I think also there is a strong argument to be made that if the Confederacy was allowed to survive, not only would there have been a dozen more wars, but also that North America might well be speaking German or Russian right now.
Also this debate is far off topic for QRV.
"No matter who shipped the slaves, White Anglo-English aristocrats still bought and used the slaves to man their plantations, and white Anglo-Americans still went to war against the USA to preserve the institution of slavery and the ill-gotten mega-wealth it afforded a select few."
Wrong. The Confederate states went to war to preserve private property rights and to stop the northern carpet baggers from rent seeking in their deals with Europe. Want to take a guess at which group from the north was doing that? It wasn't white people...
Also slavery was a dying institution and everyone knew it because of the cotton gin and other industrial advances.
The south didn't want the new northern federal system stealing its profits. They were willing to fight for it as we should be.
