I tend to take studies on rats like this with a pinch of salt:
They're often performed on very small populations, so it's not clear if the effects are statistically relevant
Rats have different typical causes of death from humans, for example, they're much more likely to die of cancer, even when not fed any experimental diet
Their physiology is different enough that the results of a rat-study don't mean much when it comes to humans. They're immune to some poisons that would kill us, and things that we wouldn't think twice about eating are anathema to them.

Also it doesn't say how much they were fed and whether they had other food as well.
