Biophotons is the light emitted from our own cells. The perception would come from something outside of yourself. They have measured ultraweak biophotons being emitted from the eyes of rats in a 2011 study. Not sure of what exact instrument was used though.
The pineal gland also detects light. Much of this stuff hasn't been exactly explained by science. You have to consider that we may be in a simulation (matrix, grid, etc) and that things change when you observe them.
