You may want to take notice that your example compares a triathlete to a sedentary person.
Sedentary doesn't mean fat.

I don't remember what the study was, but according to it, while their total muscle mass is indeed bigger, it's proportionately much lower than that of a healthy person, when compared to their absolute weight.
Proportionally yes. All that extra muscle is still over powered by the load they are under.
