can do pretty much anything you could do on Windows, except for some games
Maybe you're lucky enough to not have to use software that simply has no linux version/counterpart and doesn't run on wine. This statement, repeated by software devs, admins and people using only a browser and an e-mail client is simply false. My highly educational journey into youcandoanythingonlinuxland ended with getting a kvm and a second pc that runs linux for browsing and personal stuff, while the main rig runs windows.

What software specifically do you need? There probably is an equivalent, you or your company are just too lazy to switch or vendor locked yourself.

You sound like someone that switched to Linux and managed to get everything he needs. Good for you. I spent some time searching and testing, willing to give up a lot, but in the end my setup was a VM with windows in it, crippled by lack of 3D. Computers nowadays are so cheap (especially if you simply don't need a top notch powerhouse), you can just have more than one and designate them for specific tasks. Also, don't bring up the being afraid of change argument, because I came to Linux/Windows from OS X.
I run a DAW (with plugins), raster and vector editors (just don't bring up Gimp and Inkscape – love them both, use them for simple stuff on linux machine, but if you think those are actual replacements for PS, AI, affinity or corel, it's clear you never used any of those to make money), NLE , CAD, Stage Previs, Interior Previs.

Whatever software it is, you can just write it yourself. Doing it the Linux way. \s
Personally, I have yet to encounter any software I need that doesn't have an equivalent for Linux. If all you're doing is browsing and reading email you don't even need a PC. Just get a tablet or something.

Multifunction copiers.
Many app based services.
No "touch mode" and associated apps for the fastest selling category of PC's.

Just because there are linux alternatives, does NOT mean they are adequate. I currently run Linux Mint 19.1 with XFCE, and yet I find I still need to VM a windows platform. The most notable issues with linux apps selection for me are:
The linux graphical file managers (the best are: PCmanFM, 4pane, konqueror, dolphin) are down-right primitive by comparison to bottom of the barrel 3rd party equivalents available in Windows for the last 20 years. And best in class file managers from the Win world (xplorer^2 , directory opus, and Free Commander) are easily 3-4 decades ahead of their nearest equivalents in Linux. This is largely a function of developer's biases… they only build basic functions into gui file managers because they assume anyone doing anything sophisticated will be doing it on the command line.
Libre Office or other equivalents suck if you need to collaborate with people using MS Office. Cloud apps like Office 365 and Google Docs are no solution as they require trusting those organizations with your documents. That's why many of us moved to Linux in the first place: to escape the cloud.
GIMP is no substitute for a real image editor.

Whenever I hear people say this, they never specify the software they need. Just seems odd to me.
edit; Long back and forth between the guy responding to me is hilarious. He ends up acknowledging that yes in fact he could do everything on Linux if he so desired, but acts like a complete and utter cunt about it. Typical faggot that clings to Windows. There's obviously a reason he left out what programs he wanted to use at first, because he's probably done this before and had someone explain to him that there is Linux versions of what he needs. He just knows how to use the Windows programs and doesn't want to switch over. Fair enough-- but just fucking acknowledge that instead of pretending like there isn't an alternative on Linux.

Here's a short list that keeps me from using Linux predominately.. Fusion 360, Zbrush, Solidworks, and then video games. If I could CAD and 3D model, and play any video game on Linux I'd be there, long time ago.

Why not just run Windows under VirtualBox? You get to run the apps you need, with the added benefit of them being sandboxed from the rest of your system. And if something goes to shit, you can just roll back to a recent snapshot and it's like it never happened.

Non passthrough VM is a cardboard facsimile when it comes to Audio/Video/3D. To set proper passthrough I'd have to get another GPU that I'd need just for this and nothing else. And if something goes to shit, I can just roll back to a recent snapshot and it's like it never happened, because I know of the thingy called backup.

You don't run a 3D modeling program through a fucking VM.
