WTF is it with America and this "bullying" fascination?!

This isn't new!!! The people at the top are always dicks and constantly fighting amongst each other for dominance.

Bullies aren't interested in nerds or in geeks or in random acts of abuse (only if you get in their way)... Bullies are concerned with being #1.

This is like looking at the Koch brothers (who had to be given boxing gloves so they don't kill each other from the bar knuckle fighting they engaged in with each other) and pretending that those rich bastards are somehow "low status, depressed, or have low self-esteem".

Bullies are people of power! When will America learn this?

First thing that came to my mind upon reading the post title.

That certainly seems to fly in the face of what's been said in the past; that bullies pick on others to alleviate their own feelings of inadequacy.

People who say that are the same people who say homophobes don't like gay people because they're actually trying to hide being gay themselves. It's just pseudo-psychological fantasy.

Yeah if you take a look at some of the most vocal anti-gay US politicians, you'd see that that theory holds water. Some homophobes are just assholes, but plenty are self-repressed gays.

Ah, well, I'm one of the people who says that. The only reason I can see someone being homophobic is if they're afraid that being exposed to homosexuality will make them question their own sexuality and they're so insecure that scares them and/or they're brainwashed by religion to hate anyone the church leadership tells them to.

I'd love to hear a reasoned/rational counter-argument to that if you have one, it might help me understand some of the people in my family.

It looks like they just did a survey. As a professional statistician, I would question how seriously these results should be taken.

And she said based on the results she wants to re-do the study on a larger scale.

As a professional statistician do you also only skim articles?

I question the the methodology itself. Letting people self-analyze their own level of depression, social status, and self-esteem, especially with a group that has statistically proven history of narcissism, doesn't seem like the most accurate form of assessment.

I'm taking this to mean that it's acceptable for victims to humiliate their bullies now because fittest, bitch!

When was that not acceptable? Fight back against bullies. Is that not taught everywhere?

This study was a colossal waste of time.

Higher Social Status (Popular) Highest Self Esteem (Popular) Lower Rates of Depression (Popular) all this damn study did is confirm anything we have experienced in high school or ever seen in ANY teenager based TV Show/Cartoon/Movie.

Damnit now I am thinking about "Not Another Teen Movie"
