Well make something at home then. Get yourself a hobby like woodworking. Learn to make your own (non-upholstered) furniture. Then come back here and whine about being disenchanted with post WWII America.

The new technologies coming like automation & AI & much more will reverse this trend and usher in a new agricultural reformation and a new technological reformation. Do your best to prepare to be your own scientist, engineer and producer to get a head start above everyone else.

You may not be seeing it; at least in our house, my kids are learning to do things themselves. They're Gen Alpha, hopefully, anti-consumerism. They earn everything, and wife is on board with this. Think before you use money to solve your problems is a lesson they learn every day.

My grandmother grew up during the depression and her family was always poor, but they got by just fine. I’m lucky she passed on her knowledge to me. I hate living in a culture of consumerism, but I don’t participate in it. It mainly just upsets me that people have no idea their lives could be so much better.
