I think Shifty is screwed either way, if he ignores the law it will come back to not only haunt him but possibly indict him as grounds for expulsion (requires 2/3rds vote of congress though) or possible criminal violation of the law. On the other hand, if Schiff allows it he may be called to testify himself as a witness. If he was forced to testify pencil dick cannot help but to lie so he will end up perjuring himself ... again he is screwed either way.

The text of the letter doesn't mention anything about limiting it to one day, it just says they're entitled to call witnesses...
the minority members of the committee shall be entitled, upon request to the chair by a majority of them before the completion of the hearing, to call witnesses selected by the minority to testify

Here is the actual text:
(j)(1) Whenever a hearing is conducted by a committee on a measure or matter, the minority members of the committee shall be entitled, upon request to the chair by a majority of them before the completion of the hearing, to call witnesses selected by the minority to testify with respect to that measure or matter during at least one day of hearing thereon.

That rule also states Schiffty can choose to put people under oath or not.
