(((American))) music is terrible today with very few exceptions. Don't expect anything you hear in public or on the radio to be actual music anymore.

My parents scoffed the bullshit I listen to when I was a kid. Now I scoff at the bullshit my kids listen to.

Well since you bring it up, what's your favorite music recently? Give me some cool baroque and renaissance masterpieces.

I've noticed my desire to listen to music is diminishing, as well as shifting to classical for the times I do listen. I still listen to hippy 60s and 70s rock, and the occasional new song that is interesting. But overall, 99%+ of music really is garbage.

I heard this on the radio while in the car today among all the other junk. It stuck in my mind enough to look it up when I got home, probably because of the Major Tom lyric parts, and I liked some of David Bowie's music: Peter Schilling - Major Tom (Coming Home). It uplifted my spirit while stuck in traffic, which is rare.

I think it's just a part of getting older that you tend to revisit the things you know rather than looking for new and exciting things. I'm getting there myself though I do try to fight it still.

If we ignore the hit list music that is factually getting dumber and dumber it's my impression there's still plenty of good music being made out there, you just have to put some effort into finding it. I often search music on Jewtube by specific instrument rather than genre. I search for Minimoog or Korg MS20 rather than synth for instance. Or maybe you feel like checking out some harp guitar? I found this fella that way.

There is more music being produced than ever before, meeting a wide, almost infinite variety of tastes and preferences. Now that doesnt mean it's all good...in fact, most of it is shitty, but there is some definitely some stuff you will like out there...you just gotta sift through the stuff you dont like. Listening to music has become a largely individual experience in the modern day of information overload.

There's some great orchestral music post 19th C - Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Debussy, Sibelius, Rachmaninoff..
